Robotic ARM removes Brain Tumor

A Robot has helped surgeons in Canada to remove the brain tumor from a 21 year old woman. Doctors controlled the Neuro Arm from from a computer work station to guide the two-armed device through Paige Nickason’s brain through a 9 hour operation.

The Neuro Arm is more precise an works with a magnetic resonance imaging scan(MRI). It is able to move in far smaller increments than a surgeons hand. According to doctor Garnette Sutherland, who led the university of Calagry team that developed the robot, “Neuro Arm will improve surgical outcomes as it is less invasive and more delicate in its touch”.

Digital Pen that records audio as well

Finally, a useful digital pen has arrived. The digital pens developed so far record what the user writes and transfer an image of these notes to a PC. The new pen called the LiveScribe pulse also records audio as you write. Later, you can tap a place i your notes, and the pen plays back what it was hearing when that was written.

As you can imagine, this will be highly useful for journalists, who run around with note pads and voice recorders. Students also stand to benefit. There is probably no better gadget for taking notes in class, except a table PC, which allows you to write on the screen. But tablet PC’s are expesive and more difficult to use than the Pulse, which works with standard Windows PC’s. You can also use it in a more limited fashion without a PC.

I-Phone coming in India

Bharthi Airtel and Apple will be bringing the highly anticipated I phone 3G to customers in India later this year. Vodafone will make the I phone available in Australia, Italy, Newzealand and Portugal also as early as possible and also Czech Republic, Greece, Egypt, South Africa, and Turkey later this year.

I phone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of i phone with 3G networking that is twice as fast as the first generation iphone, built in GPS fo expanded location - based mobile services and i phone 2.0 software that includes software for Microsoft exchange active  sync and runs hundreds of third party aplications already built with the recently released I-phone SDK.

PCs and flat panel TV’s to cost more

Electronics and IT goods makers like HCL Infosystems, LG Electronics and Zenith are raising prices of electronics goods like personal computers including laptops and desktops, LCD’s and Plasma TV’s. and also It peripherals to as much as 13 percent to offset the cost of higher inputs triggered by a falling dollar. The move may nudge inflation further  crimping consumer spending.

Samsung, too is mulling a price hike. computer makers import almost 90 percent of inputs used in the manufacture of PC’s. For LCD monitors the gravity of the situation is compounded by the fact that customs duty is based on the maximum retail price. Globally, LCD monitors panel prics have been risen by around by 5 percent.

LG target prices hike of 7 to 10 percent. However, it will be increased in a phased manner starting with a 3 percent hike with immediate effect.
